The Holiday season is in full swing. I love this time of year. The music, the decorations, the gifting, the eggnog lattes…the list goes on. The only thing I struggle with is the disconnect between the significance and origins of the major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah) in contrast with the retail blitz surrounding it all. I don’t want to get all philosophical but I feel conflicted between being Thankful for things like health, love and a roof over my head right before entering the shopping *%^storm.
I vow every year to shop locally and support small, independent brands and shops. I find that I do pretty well, but it can be hard especially when I have a budget and chain stores are running great sales. I’m always looking for suggestions and ideas for gifts from non chain stores. Etsy is one of my favorites and holiday markets are also perfect for discovering unique things while supporting local artisans. Where do you do the bulk of you gift shopping?
