I had a free fall make-up consultation yesterday at a new beauty spa and boutique in the mall. I thought it would be fun to get my make-up done by someone who has a clue and maybe get some tips on colors that would work for me. Wrong-o. A little background here. I am a drug store make up person. I spend very little on beauty and make-up products. My staples are black mascara, blush and lipstick. I have a quick and easy routine that works for me but I still walk into a place like Sephora and want everything. My problem is that I don’t know make-up tricks and I don’t want to spend a lot of money on make-up unless it’s going to change my life. When I signed up for the consultation I was hoping that the make-up artist would:
1.Show me how to wear glitter or metallics without looking like a showgirl.
2.Help me find a deep red lipstick that doesn’t make me feel clownish.
3.Get that sultry, smoky eye look.
These are simple requests, non? Instead I got a whole lot of concealer slapped on to my face (way to make a girl feel naturally beautiful), blush that brought my skin back to the color it was before the concealer was applied, and actually, not that much make-up but enough to make me feel like a drag queen when I left. There is a silver lining here. The sweet aesthetician who was watching the whole thing go down could tell that I was less than pleased with how my skin was looking during all of the brushing, smudging and blending. I was pretty verbal about how unhappy I thought my skin looked.
She advised a cleansing and exfoliating regime and gave me a pocket full of pricey samples. I can honestly say after one night and morning of using these new products I’m convinced that some beauty products are far superior to others. All the products are by Darphin Paris. Now I just need to find a make-up artist who doesn’t want to conceal me but wants to help me find make -up that is fun, easy and leaves me feeling pretty.
Do you have any beauty products that you swear by?? Please share! I’m willing to try anything with a good and honest endorsement.
